O mosquito \u00e9 comum em \u00e1reas urbanas, onde a alta densidade populacional e a presen\u00e7a de locais adequados para a oviposi\u00e7\u00e3o favorecem sua reprodu\u00e7\u00e3o. Os h\u00e1bitos das f\u00eameas do mosquito, que se alimentam de sangue humano para maturar seus ovos, s\u00e3o cruciais para a transmiss\u00e3o do v\u00edrus. Ao picar uma pessoa infectada, o mosquito adquire o v\u00edrus e, ap\u00f3s alguns dias, \u00e9 capaz de transmiti-lo, elevando o risco de surtos das doen\u00e7as mencionadas.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\"><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em><\/span>Uma ferramenta para o controle de popula\u00e7\u00f5es de insetos \u00e9 a aplica\u00e7\u00e3o de inseticidas, que s\u00e3o uma estrat\u00e9gia de controle qu\u00edmico tanto na agricultura quanto no ambiente dom\u00e9stico. O controle eficaz de popula\u00e7\u00f5es de mosquitos \u00e9 crucial para a sa\u00fade p\u00fablica. A aplica\u00e7\u00e3o de inseticidas contribui para a redu\u00e7\u00e3o do n\u00famero de mosquitos presentes em \u00e1reas urbanas e rurais e, por consequ\u00eancia, para a diminui\u00e7\u00e3o das taxas de infec\u00e7\u00e3o das doen\u00e7as por eles transmitidas.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><div data-hook=\"rcv-block1\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\"><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em><\/span>Durante surtos, o uso de inseticidas pode ser decisivo para conter a propaga\u00e7\u00e3o dos v\u00edrus transmitidos pelo <em>Aedes<\/em>, permitindo interven\u00e7\u00f5es r\u00e1pidas que protegem a sa\u00fade da popula\u00e7\u00e3o. Por\u00e9m, o uso dos inseticidas foi se tornando pol\u00eamico devido ao impacto ambiental e efeitos nocivos \u00e0 sa\u00fade causados pelos mesmos. Concomitantemente, nas \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas, popula\u00e7\u00f5es de insetos t\u00eam gradualmente desenvolvido resist\u00eancia aos efeitos de diversos tipos de inseticidas. Para entender isso, vamos tra\u00e7ar uma trajet\u00f3ria do uso dos inseticidas e suas consequ\u00eancias positivas e negativas.<\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-docs-internal-guid-cec03f3a-7fff-6385-a6c4-06a18cc6bb20\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\"><strong>A evolu\u00e7\u00e3o da resist\u00eancia a inseticidas\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-0dxxq397\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\"><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>Diversas tentativas de sintetizar compostos com efeitos inseticidas comprovados, e em larga escala, foram realizadas ao longo do s\u00e9culo XIX. O primeiro inseticida org\u00e2nico sintetizado que possu\u00eda simultaneamente alta efic\u00e1cia e podia ser produzido em larga escala foi o DDT (diclorodifeniltricloroetano). Esse inseticida surgiu como uma forma efetiva de controlar a transmiss\u00e3o da mal\u00e1ria durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. A partir de 1946, com o fim da guerra, o DDT come\u00e7ou a ser utilizado tamb\u00e9m na agricultura para manejo de insetos-praga. Por\u00e9m, o uso descontrolado do DDT come\u00e7ou a representar um grave problema de sa\u00fade p\u00fablica por causar intoxica\u00e7\u00f5es agudas e contamina\u00e7\u00e3o cr\u00f4nica do meio ambiente. Em resposta, a partir dos anos 70, o uso agr\u00edcola foi interrompido e pro\u00edbido em v\u00e1rios pa\u00edses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-xwird401\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\"><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>No Brasil, as primeiras restri\u00e7\u00f5es surgiram em 1971, e o uso do DDT na agricultura foi totalmente proibido em 1985. No entanto, sua aplica\u00e7\u00e3o em campanhas de sa\u00fade p\u00fablica contra vetores como o <em>Aedes aegypti<\/em> continuou at\u00e9 1997. O banimento completo e definitivo de toda a produ\u00e7\u00e3o, importa\u00e7\u00e3o, comercializa\u00e7\u00e3o e uso do DDT no pa\u00eds foi estabelecido por lei em 1998.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-docs-internal-guid-b4a8fb3d-7fff-a29a-cbfb-f4f05e3cbab4\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\"><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>A restri\u00e7\u00e3o do uso do DDT, tanto no Brasil quanto no resto do mundo, foi um reflexo direto das preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es com sua toxicidade e com o aumento da resist\u00eancia de mosquitos, efeito causado pelo uso massivo dos inseticidas e a falta de estrat\u00e9gias para combinar o controle qu\u00edmico com outros m\u00e9todos de controle. A resist\u00eancia aos inseticidas se refere \u00e0 capacidade de popula\u00e7\u00f5es de insetos de sobreviver \u00e0 exposi\u00e7\u00e3o a subst\u00e2ncias que antes lhes eram letais. Popula\u00e7\u00f5es de insetos se tornam resistentes a inseticidas pela sele\u00e7\u00e3o de indiv\u00edduos resistentes que, ao sobreviver, reproduzem-se, transmitindo genes que conferem essa habilidade \u00e0 pr\u00f3xima gera\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-aqfnh434\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\"><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>Estudos revelam que os mosquitos mostram resist\u00eancia \u00e0s quatro classes de inseticidas usados atualmente (carbamatos, organoclorados, organofosforados e piretr\u00f3ides), representando uma amea\u00e7a global \u00e0 sa\u00fade p\u00fablica. Em resposta a isso, o Minist\u00e9rio da Sa\u00fade argentino intensificou o uso de inseticidas no contexto de controle de arboviroses. Para o controle das popula\u00e7\u00f5es de mosquitos no est\u00e1gio larval, intensificou-se o uso dos inseticidas organofosforados, enquanto que para o controle das popula\u00e7\u00f5es de mosquitos adultos foram utilizados inseticidas piretr\u00f3ides. O monitoramento dos efeitos desses inseticidas mostrou que a mortalidade dos mosquitos <em>Aedes<\/em> expostos aos piretr\u00f3ides come\u00e7ou a cair a partir de 2013, mostrando um aumento de popula\u00e7\u00f5es resistentes a essa classe de inseticida.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-n5raw873\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Os piretr\u00f3ides agem \u201cnocauteando\u201d os mosquitos. Esse grupo de inseticidas causa aos mosquitos uma paralisia quase imediata, devido \u00e0 a\u00e7\u00e3o dos chamados \u201ccanais de s\u00f3dio\u201d. Os canais de s\u00f3dio s\u00e3o, basicamente, t\u00faneis biol\u00f3gicos onde min\u00fasculas part\u00edculas podem ou n\u00e3o passar, abrindo e fechando e s\u00e3o essenciais para a sobreviv\u00eancia do organismo. Se o t\u00fanel ficar continuamente aberto, resultado da a\u00e7\u00e3o do piretr\u00f3ide, ent\u00e3o ocorrer\u00e1 um descontrole na passagem de part\u00edculas e, assim, o organismo ficar\u00e1 \u201csobrecarregado\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-ilslv876\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Quando ocorre uma muta\u00e7\u00e3o (ou seja, uma mudan\u00e7a na informa\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica) que altera esses canais de s\u00f3dio, os piretr\u00f3ides t\u00eam efeito reduzido, uma vez que possuem afinidade apenas com a estrutura molecular sem muta\u00e7\u00e3o dos canais. Os genes associados a essa muta\u00e7\u00e3o s\u00e3o chamados de <strong>kdr <\/strong>(<strong>K<\/strong>nock<strong>D<\/strong>own <strong>R<\/strong>esistance, em portugu\u00eas, <strong>resist\u00eancia ao nocaute<\/strong>). Diversas muta\u00e7\u00f5es de kdr j\u00e1 foram documentadas, mas s\u00f3 tr\u00eas resultam em resist\u00eancia, por parte dos mosquitos, aos piretr\u00f3ides. O artigo, ent\u00e3o, parte do pressuposto de que mosquitos com muta\u00e7\u00f5es <strong>kdr<\/strong> est\u00e3o se espalhando pela Argentina e reduzindo a efic\u00e1cia do controle qu\u00edmico baseado\u00a0 em piretr\u00f3ides.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-uqls9891\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Para avaliar essa hip\u00f3tese, pesquisadores da Argentina coletaram ovos de <em>A. aegypti<\/em> utilizando ovitrampas em quatro cidades, Puerto Iguaz\u00fa, Clorinda, Tartagal e Or\u00e1n. Posteriormente, os ovos foram levados ao laborat\u00f3rio, onde foram mantidos em condi\u00e7\u00f5es adequadas para desenvolvimento dos mosquitos at\u00e9 a fase adulta, na qual o inseticida piretr\u00f3ide poderia ser testado.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-tg57a900\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Os mosquitos adultos foram ent\u00e3o expostos a permetrina, um inseticida piretr\u00f3ide, para analisar a mortalidade atrav\u00e9s da dose discriminat\u00f3ria. A dose discriminat\u00f3ria \u00e9 a quantidade m\u00ednima para matar 99% ou mais de uma popula\u00e7\u00e3o de insetos, ou seja, \u00e9 a dose que seria considerada letal e efetiva para o controle daquela popula\u00e7\u00e3o. Para mosquitos n\u00e3o-resistentes aos piretr\u00f3ides, a dose discriminat\u00f3ria de permetrina \u00e9 a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de 0,4%. Mesmo testando doses 5 e 10 vezes maiores que a dose discriminat\u00f3ria, os testes mostraram que n\u00e3o foi poss\u00edvel chegar aos 99% de mortalidade. Isso significa que, na pr\u00e1tica, as popula\u00e7\u00f5es de <em>A. aegypti<\/em> dessas cidades n\u00e3o s\u00e3o suscet\u00edveis \u00e0 permetrina e o controle qu\u00edmico com esse inseticida \u00e9 inefetivo para acabar com essas popula\u00e7\u00f5es.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-aeol7905\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Por\u00e9m, ainda restava saber se essa resist\u00eancia tinha liga\u00e7\u00e3o com as muta\u00e7\u00f5es kdr. Para investigar isso, os pesquisadores extra\u00edram o DNA dos mosquitos selecionados e procuraram as varia\u00e7\u00f5es nos genes que formam os canais de s\u00f3dio nos mosquitos. Ao fazerem essa an\u00e1lise, perceberam as mesmas varia\u00e7\u00f5es gen\u00e9ticas que resultam nas muta\u00e7\u00f5es kdr, concluindo que as popula\u00e7\u00f5es das quatro cidades testadas, agora comprovadamente s\u00e3o resistentes ao inseticida testado.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-docs-internal-guid-10ece9e3-7fff-2e63-9f78-5907b7514820\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Em entrevista \u00e0 National Geographic Brasil, uma das pesquisadoras envolvidas no estudo, Laura Harburguer, afirmou: \u201c<em>Se o controle desses insetos for baseado apenas em um tipo de inseticida, sua aplica\u00e7\u00e3o repetida gerar\u00e1 resist\u00eancia e, em alguns anos, se n\u00e3o fizermos um gerenciamento integrado, estaremos na mesma situa\u00e7\u00e3o novamente.<\/em>\u201d Essa declara\u00e7\u00e3o enfatiza a necessidade de um manejo integrado de pragas, combinando diferentes tipos de m\u00e9todos qu\u00edmicos e n\u00e3o qu\u00edmicos, al\u00e9m do envolvimento da comunidade na luta contra o mosquito.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-cytkx675\" class=\"DFnp0 WloJR SLuLS _6qLM3\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"akGp8 SLuLS\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A resist\u00eancia do <em>Aedes aegypti<\/em>\u00a0aos inseticidas traz s\u00e9rias consequ\u00eancias para os programas de controle. A efic\u00e1cia reduzida em eliminar a popula\u00e7\u00e3o de mosquitos resulta em um aumento da incid\u00eancia de doen\u00e7as transmitidas por esses vetores.
