A CCMIBA conta atualmente com mais de 400 micro-organismos e tem como principal fun\u00e7\u00e3o a aquisi\u00e7\u00e3o, preserva\u00e7\u00e3o, identifica\u00e7\u00e3o, cataloga\u00e7\u00e3o e distribui\u00e7\u00e3o de micro-organismos para dar suporte ao ensino, a pesquisa (incluindo projetos de mestrado, doutorado, trabalhos de conclus\u00e3o de curso e inicia\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica) e a extens\u00e3o.
